The Emergency Lighting internal and external provide the emergency lighting required in the event of power failure through fault or through fire to enable occupants to safely evacuate the building to a place of safety. Emergency Lighting is required when a premise’s is used outside of normal daylight hours, buildings or areas that have no natural or borrowed light and areas of specific risk. There may also be a requirement for illuminated maintained or non-maintained exit signage in specific areas.

 

The failure to install or maintain emergency lighting will put personnel at risk. The best practice guidance document for Emergency Lighting is detailed in BS 5266-1 (latest version) with the main points of emphasis highlighted under Table E.1 of the standard.
