Fire doors need to provide the fire rating provenance required and must be installed by a competent installer. If the fire door is old, damaged, has no provenance, not been maintained or has not been installed correctly it is highly likely to fail in a fire, sometimes very quickly, putting lives and livelihoods at risk.

 

A correctly rated and installed fire door set will hold a fire back providing the time required to escape safely however more importantly it will hold back smoke that could otherwise very quickly affect the escape routes. The fire door will also prevent rapid fire spread and allow the fire service to better contain a fire to the compartment of origin preventing further damage to the building, stock or processes.
